April 17 - 29 Childrens Whale Art Show Stop by to view the amazing whale art created by local students. Arranged by Cat DeVries. Location: The High School Foyer in the glass cases.

April 4-May 2 Spill: Alaskan Artists Remember The exhibit is sponsored by the Prince William Sound Regional Citizens Advisory Council, and curated by Asia Freeman of Bunnell Street Arts Center, Homer. It features the original artwork of thirty Alaskan artists, including Kodiak artists Sven Haakanson, Alf Pryor and Antoinette Walker. The opening reception will be Saturday, April 4, from 5 to 7:30 pm. Visitors can enjoy an evening of art and remembrance with free admission, refreshments and the opportunity to meet the Kodiak artists represented in the show. Location: Baranov Museum.

7:00pm Alutiiq Marine Mammal Hunting Through Time
An lecture by curator Patrick Saltonstall
Sea mammal meat, oil, skin and bone were once essential resources for Kodiak's Alutiiq people. In honor of Whalefest Kodiak and Alaska Archaeology Month, curator Patrick Saltonstall will give an illustrated lecture on sea mammals in Alutiiq prehistory. Learn how Alutiiqs captured seals, sea lions, and whales, explore the uses of sea mammal products, and hear how archaeologists think hunting traditions changed as Kodiak's population grew and its environment cooled.Contact Education Coordinator Tanya Glaspell, 486-7004, x22. Kodiak College 40th Anniversary Celebration.

7pm WhaleFest Movie at the Library Flipper (1963) - A fisherman's son in the Florida Keys befriends an injured dolphin, but must eventually return the animal to the wild. 10:00am-11am Childrens Scrimshaw Activity Create your very own scrimshaw whale story! Turn ordinary materials into a work of art that is a great replica of true scrimshaw work. 9:30am Narrow Cape Whale Watching with Stacy Studebaker. Nearly all of the Eastern Pacific gray whales pass by Narrow Cape during their migration. EARTH DAY

7:00-9:00pm A Sea Change A new Documentary film on Climate Change and the Ocean. It follows retired educator and concerned grandfather Sven Huseby back to stunning ancestral sites (Norway, Alaska the Pacific Northwest) where he finds cutting-edge ocean research underway. His journey of self-discovery brings adventure, surprise and revelation to the hard science of acidification. The event will be sponsored by AMCC. 7:00 -8:00pm Research Update on the Marine Mammals of Kodiak. Join Bree Witteveen for the story of how the baby fin whale was disentangled in Uyak Bay last summer.
